Upganic: An Efficient non-toxic plant growth regulator

Both human and environment health demand innovative, natural and harmless option to artificial ripening

Discover Upganic

What is Upganic

Upganic is a new formula for agriculture mainly composed by a non-chiral Cα-quaternary amino acid of natural origin.

This amino acid acts on different physiological processes of the plant at low concentrations, mainly at the level of growth, development and differentiation. And it is essential for the ability of plants to adapt to abiotic stress through a wide range of adaptive responses.

Therefore, Upganic, a formula containing this natural amino acid synthesized by the plants, is becoming a promising ethylene releaser, safer and more efficient alternative to the most sold plant growth regulator (PGR) in the world, the Etephon.

So, the new ethylene liberator aims to compete in the world market with other ethylene releasers such as ethephon and calcium carbide in artificial maturation. And also avoid public health problems by the already mentioned liberators.

As, the social conscience for the protection of the environment and the healthiest natural foods are currently increasing among consumers in developed countries.
As a result, Upganic would maintain the levels of waste expected in the export fruit market in a wide range of crops.

Applications

ACC can be used on:

  • Cereals (wheat, barley, rye and rice) to increase resistance to lodging through straw shortening and strengthening.
  • Fruits and vegetables to promote fruit maturity (early and uniform ripening and colouring of mature fruits).
  • Ornamentals to stimulate flowering and side branching and to reduce plant height.
  • Cotton to promote uniform boll opening and enhance defoliation.
  • Rubber to increase yield and to reduce bark consumption.

Ethylene in plants

Ethylene, which is biosynthesized from ACC, is produced from all parts of higher plants. This parts include leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruits, tubers and seeds. And it serves as a hormone in plants. It acts at trace levels throughout the life of the plant by stimulating or regulating the ripening of fruit, the opening of flowers, and the abscission of leave.

Proven ACC applications

As a result of a INNPACTO proyect (2012-2016), it was developed and optimized the synthesis of ACC and its formula. In consecuence, the effectiveness of the ACC was proved in Olive Crops (to promote tree abscission enhancement), tomatoes (to promote ripening induction) and citrus (to promote de-greening). The results were analysed and further validaterd by AKIS International experts in agricultural sector, focused on designing of experiments and advanced statistical analysis.

olives

Olive (Olea europea L., non-climateric fruit)

We conducted field test during 2015 applying formulated Upganic to 1ha of olive trees located in El Segriá, Lleida (Spain). As a result, the olive ripening was homogenised and the harvesting was conducted almost 100% in a single step, which clearly proved the enhancement of the senescence of the olive penduncle.
Without the application of Upganic, olives ripen at different rates and the harvesting must be done in two or more steps, increasing by twice or more all harvesting costs.

tomatoes

Tomato (climateric vegetable, Solanum lycopersicum. L)

We conducted field test during 2015 appyling formulated Upganic to Tomate Crops, cultivar Bodar in hydroponic system (with sack of substrate). The colour of the skin was analytically measured to analyse how the ripening process happens and compares it to the natural process.
Results shown that using Upganic effectively promoted faster ripening stage, excatly as Ethephon can activate.

oranges

Citrics (non-climateric fruit, orangeCitrus x sinensis)

We conducted field test during 2015 appyling formulated Upganic to Oranges in order to assess Upganic effectiveness in de-greening. Again, the colour of the skin was measured with specific image software in order to analyse the response to the molecule.
Results shown that using Upganic, colour was faster developed and homogeneous in the skin than without it.

pomelo

Mango crops

This study aimed at evaluating the effect of the Upganic on the flowering induction of “Tommy Atkins” mango tree fruits in Paraiba State (Brazil). The study was carried out treating with five different doses (0 g, 0.25 g, 0.50 g, 1.00 g and 2.00 g) of Upganic per meter of diameter of tree canopy. The combination with the tree pruning increased the flowering percentage in response to the Upganic dose, had a higher number of panicles per branch, increased the number of fruits per branch, and were no differences in fruit quality in response to the Upganic application.

Benefits

background image friendly

Easy to Use

Liquid solution easy to spray and handle.

background image eco

Biodegradable

Its natural origin helps it to be totally biologically degradable.

upganic icon growth

More efficient

Due to its lower molecular weight, the ethylene content is higher, thus the quantity of ethylene released in field.

background image harmless

Non-toxic behaviour

Upganic chemical sysnthesis mimics the natural biochemical pathway that naturally occurs in plants to self-generate ethylene.

background image fruit

Use in non-Climacteric fruits

The product can be sprayed directly in the field.

Suitable for Post-harvest ripening

Dues to its non toxic behaviour, Upganic can be used on fruits and vegetables that are not processed before consumption, even if they are further consumed by humans or animals.
